How should I best prepare my mixes for master?

Thanks for asking!

  • It would be great if the exported mixes could be 24-bit or 32-bit and between 44.1 kHz and 192 kHz!

  • Please make sure output levels don't go above 0db.

  • Please send as a lossless file type like WAV or AIFF (not MP3 or MP4).

What gear do you use?

Truly? Nothing remotely magical or fancy.
I master "in the box" which just means I don't use analog equipment in my chain. So, mainly, I use pretty standard tools like Ozone, RX, and a bunch of random plug-ins I've put into my digital toolbox over the years. Since I don't have a massive amount of gear, I know the gear I do have extremely well and it also allows me to charge less for my services, since I am not locked into paying it off or an expensive studio space. The best gear I have is my ears and a desire to truly understand what you want out of a project before I even load anything into a mastering chain!

What's the process like?

I really want to make sure that your masters sound exactly like you're hoping and the best way for me to do that is to be able to chat with you (either over email or the phone) to get an idea of exactly what you're aiming for! Also, it will help me answer any lingering questions you might have about the process.

After we talk, I'll get to work on your masters and send them your way! Once you get a chance to try them out on different systems, I'm happy to make any revisions necessary (for free) until we get them sounding exactly how you want them!

What if I don't like it?

If we go through the revision process and you feel as though I'm not the right fit for your project, then no hard feelings! If you have pre-paid, I will refund you and recommend some other friends who might be better able to help you! If you haven't paid, then nothing will be owed. However, if I find out you've ended up using masters I've sent over then I will send a hoard of angry ghosts after you (or just politely ask for payment due).
